Khamsin- The World’s First Fully Automated Endoscope Cleaner

Nanotechnology and Ultrasonics solves a thirty year problem

After a five year research programme working with Aston University and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, PFE Medical have proudly launched the Khamsin. This is literally the world’s first totally automated flexible endoscope cleaner, that not only cleans the whole endoscope, but even removes existing biofilms using nanotechnology.

Independent studies both by hospital infection research laboratory and the TU laboratory in Ireland have both demonstrated that the Khamsin is far superior to that achieved manually – even when the people cleaning the endoscopes know results are going to be overseen.

The Khamsin has successfully cleaned over 30,000 endoscopes in Decontamination departments in the UK and Ireland whilst giving the departments a cost saving. Greater efficiency is always being looked for within the NHS and now one operator can produce 18,000 perfectly cleaned Endoscopes each year, without any RSI’s. Prior to the Khamsin these tasks would have taken three highly trained staff.

The Khamsin is a British patented invention, that is manufactured here along with its chemical meaning that it has a minimal impact on the planet and supporting the British economy.
