Partners for Endoscopy
PFE Medical is a family-run company specialising in infection prevention, decontamination, and endoscopy reprocessing solutions. Founded in 2004, we have supported hospitals and endoscopy units for over two decades, with a focus on improving patient safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Our key products include the Khamsin automated endoscope cleaner and Scirocco automated endoscope drying systems, both delivering validated and reliable performance while addressing the challenge of biofilm. Together, they support effective reprocessing, full traceability, and compliance with standards.
PFE Medical also provides UV-C disinfection solutions for ultrasound probes, ENT scopes, and TOE probes, alongside a comprehensive range of high-quality endoscopy accessories.
Approach to Healthcare
At PFE Medical, our approach to healthcare is guided by a strong commitment to reliability, innovation, and patient safety. We believe that effective infection prevention and consistent, validated processes are essential to delivering high-quality care.
By developing and supplying advanced decontamination and endoscopy reprocessing solutions, we help healthcare providers reduce the risk of human error, improve clinical efficiency, and maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance. Our technologies are designed to support healthcare professionals in their daily work, enabling them to operate with confidence and focus on what matters most, delivering safe, effective care to patients.
Impact on Healthcare
Our products and services address one of the most critical challenges in healthcare, the safe, consistent, and verifiable reprocessing of medical instruments, particularly flexible endoscopes and other diagnostic devices. Traditional manual cleaning methods are highly operator-dependent, difficult to validate, and carry an increased risk of residual contamination and biofilm formation.
PFE Medical’s automated solutions standardise key stages of the reprocessing cycle, significantly reducing the potential for human error while improving reproducibility and traceability. By delivering validated, consistent outcomes, our systems support safer clinical workflows, strengthen infection prevention practices, and ultimately contribute to improved patient safety and confidence in care delivery.
Innovation
At PFE Medical, recent innovation focuses on improving patient safety through the automation and standardisation of critical reprocessing steps. Our latest developments replace variable, manual processes with validated, technology-driven solutions that minimise risk and improve clinical confidence.
A key breakthrough is Khamsin, the world’s first fully automated flexible endoscope cleaning system designed to completely replace manual cleaning. Combining ultrasonic technology with nanotechnology, it delivers consistent, reproducible cleaning, removes biofilm, and significantly reduces human error, staff workload, and reliance on single-use consumables.
Scirocco complements this by providing automated endoscope drying and storage, ensuring complete, validated drying in 5–7 minutes. AI-driven humidity monitoring and full traceability prevent residual moisture, reduce recontamination risk, and enable safe storage of endoscopes for up to 30 days.
In parallel, our Chronos range introduces rapid, chemical-free UV-C disinfection. Chronos delivers high-level disinfection of ultrasound probes in a 90-second cycle, while Chronos Max extends this to TEE probes, ENT endoscopes without operating channels, and CMAC laryngoscopes, providing fully validated disinfection in just four minutes with immediate readiness for reuse.
Future Direction
PFE Medical’s future direction is focused on advancing patient safety through the continued automation and standardisation of medical device reprocessing. Our aim is to further reduce variability, minimise preventable risk, and support healthcare professionals with validated, reliable technologies that integrate seamlessly into everyday clinical workflows.
In parallel, we actively participate in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Aston University, which enables ongoing research and product development, as well as the creation and commercialisation of new innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.
